Adze - Straight One-Handed by Henry Taylor |
The Straight One-Handed Adze by Henry Taylor is similar to the Carpenter's Adze, but intended for one handed use, this adze is hand forged out of the highest quality Sheffield steel by Henry Taylor in England, one of the oldest British woodworking tool companies with a toolmaking tradition dating back to 1834. The overall length of the blade is 7" with a straight 2 1/4" cutting edge. The length of the blade also has a slightly curved shape from the eye to the cutting edge to match the natural arc resulting from its accompanying 12" long Ash handle. The Straight One-Handed Adze is intended for one handed use and removes wood at a fantastic rate. It is ideal for smaller shaping and trimming jobs where a greater degree of control is needed. Although it comes machine sharpened, we recommend a final hone for optimal performance. Made in England.

The Adze
The adze is used to shape and trim timber. It is capable of removing large amounts of wood quickly. Today's common uses of the Carpenter's Adze do not differ much from its traditional purpose. It is still used for scaling bark, shaping and trimming timber and any job requiring a tool capable of rapid wood removal.
