Honing Guide (0 - 2 5/8" Capacity) - Made in England |
This Honing Guide has been developed to cope with wide and short bladed chisels and plane irons. It also works real well with spokeshave irons. The capacity is zero to 2 5/8" width. The blade is clamped onto and makes contact with the underside of the two stainless steel rods. The extent to which the cutting edge projects beyond the stainless steel rod determines the honing angle. For example, clamp a chisel so that it projects exactly 5/8" beyond the steel rod and a honing angle of 25 degrees will be achieved. Full instructions for a range of angles come with each guide.
The hexagonal nut is meant for finger tightening only, not a spanner. The brass bobbin diameters are turned to a tolerance of +/- one thousandth of one inch and are selectively assembled to matched pairs with a maximum difference of 1/3 of one thousandth of one inch. This coupled with the Ertalite TX rollers being turned in pairs mean this guide has a tremendous accuracy.
If the stone you are using is not wide enough, it is recommended that an accurately planed piece of wood is fixed alongside the side of the stone to extend the working area over which the roller can operate. The spokeshave iron in the picture is not included.
