No. 113 Circular Ship's Plane (HSS Blade) - Made in Germany by KUNZ |
Featuring an upgraded High Speed Steel Cutting Iron, this is a quality reproduction of Stanley's discontinued #113. This No. 113 Circular Ship's Plane, also known as a Compass plane or Radius Plane, is sought after by boatbuilders, chairmakers and craftsmen working with convex and concave surfaces. The plane features a flexible spring steel sole that is adjustable to either a convex or a concave shape by means of a precision machined gear mechanism on the side of the plane. The steel sole is dovetailed into the grey cast iron body which has been epoxy coated for lasting protection.
The upgraded iron is 1 3/4" wide and 3/32" thick and is made from High Speed Steel hardened to Rc 65. Although more expensive, if you anticipate planing a lot of hardwoods this upgrade may definately be worthwhile. The iron is bedded at 55 degrees in the 10 1/4" long plane body. The cutting depth of the iron is easily adjusted by means of turning the brass depth adjustment knob. The typical German attention to detail and precision is evidenced by the quality fit and finish of this plane. Precision crafted in Germany by KUNZ.
