This quality Bit Brace comes with an excellent chuck with 3 forged jaws that will securely grip traditional auger bits with taper shanks as well as hex shank bits. The chuck will also grip round shank bits but we feel there will always be a tendency for round shank bits to slip in the chuck when torque in applied. Accordingly, we recommend you use the brace with auger bits with taper shanks or with hex shanks.
We have had the opportunity to test less expensive braces with unsatisfactory result. They all have inferior chucks that fail to center the bit properly as well as securely grip the bit. The superior chuck with forged jaws of this brace have none of those problems. Made in France.

A closed ratchet mechanism allows the brace to work in confined spaces with ease. Ball bearing mounted head. Overall length 14". Handle turn diameter 10".
