Splitting Axe (31") Professional Grade by Oxhead of Germany |
Note: The color of the axe head is now yellow not red as shown in the picture.
This is a professional quality Splitting Axe and in our opinion one of the best ones available anywhere. Built for one purpose and one purpose only, splitting wood. Designed for heavy duty use with an optimal splitting effect achieved by the wedgelike blade. The blade is hand forged from the finest quality German steel and has been hardened and tempered to 56-58 Rockwell C for the best combination of toughness and hardness. This blade will not chip as is so common with axes of lesser quality steel.
The blade face has a width of 4 3/4". The 6 lbs head is about 2" thick at the eye. This splitting axe also incorporates two important safety features:1. A steel sleeve to protect the Hickory handle from damage should you miss the target. 2. A patented joint system (tapered collar, safety plate and screw) to provide an absolutely safe and secure attachment of the head to the handle. There is absolutely no way that the head will accidentally come off during use.
Please note that the head is not designed for pounding a wedge. Crafted in Germany by Iltis Oxhead. Click here to see all our Splitting Mauls and Axes View Traditional Woodworker's entire selection of Axes & Hatchets To learn about axes and their use, Click here for the Ax Book Iltis Oxhead
