Great for splitting small size chunks of wood. The wedge-shaped head makes for efficient splitting. This axe has a 2-1/4 lb head, a 4" wide face, a 24" Ash handle and an overall weight of 3-1/2 lb. Not designed for pounding a splitting wedge. Get a splitting maul for pounding a wedge.
This axe is made in a small village in Austria where the skilled blacksmiths of family owned Leonhard Mueller & Söhne have been forging quality axes since year 1675. The axe is from Mueller's line of standard quality axes, features a forest green head and requires final sharpening for best performance. Although not quite as refined as the Mueller premium line, "Biber Classic", we believe it compares favorably to the axes you find in the big box stores and offers a good alternative for the hobbyist axe user.
