Ryoba Saws

The Ryoba Saw cuts on the pull stroke as opposed to Western saws which cut on the push stroke. In use, the tension from the pulling force keeps the blade straight. As a result, the saw blades can be made extra thin with very narrow kerfs (width of cut). In turn, a narrow kerf means less friction which reduces the power needed to make the cut. The end result is a fast and controlled cut with a high degree of accuracy. The term Ryoba Saw typically refers to a double-sided saw with teeth on both sides of the blade. One side has cross-cut teeth and the other side has rip-cut teeth. Also, The rip side teeth are usually smaller at the heel of the saw blade for an easy start and gets progressively larger towards the toe to allow for fast ripping.
