Rasps feature small teeth cut into the surface and are used to smooth and shape wood with a great degree of control. Relative to files, rasps remove material more quickly but also leave a rougher finish. Our European made Rasps are graded for coarseness of cut with the coarsest being Bastard Cut or Cut 1 with 60 teeth per inch ("tpi"), then progressing to Second Cut or Cut 2 with 100 tpi, Smooth Cut or Cut 3 with 140 tpi and finally our Patternmaker's Cabinet Rasp with an Ultra Smooth Cut or Cut 5 with 210 tpi being the finest. An even finer finish would require the use of our Cabinet File which leaves the finest finish of them all. Our Cabinet Rasps and Cabinet Files have a half round shape (i.e., flat on one side and rounded on the other side and are slightly wider and thinner than our half round Wood Rasp. Each tool comes already fitted with a substantial wood handle. These are premium quality tools. Made in Germany or Austria depending on supply.
