Traditionally referred to as a gutter adze, the Curved Long Handled Adze is hand forged out of the highest quality German steel by "Oxhead", one of the oldest German tool companies with a toolmaking tradition dating back to 1781. The overall length of the Curved Long Handled Adze is 9 1/2" with a curved cutting edge measuring 2 3/4" across. Head weight is 42 oz. The length of the blade also has a slightly curved shape from the eye to the cutting edge to match the natural arc resulting from its accompanying 31 1/2" long Ash handle. The tapered eye allows the handle to be safely secured without having to use wedges, permitting it to be quickly removed for ease of sharpening. Although it comes machine sharpened, we recommend a final hone for optimal performance. Made in Germany.

The adze is used to shape and trim timber.  It is capable of removing large amounts of wood quickly. The Gutter Adze was traditionally used for hollowing out the trough of wooden gutters. Fields of common use today would include timber framing, chairmaking and large wood sculpturing. 

The trade mark of the company Oxhead ("Ochsenkopf") is one of the oldest in the tool industry of Germany's Bergishen Land, home of some of the most internationally renowned German tool makers and located in towns such as Solingen, Wuppertal and Remscheid. The name Oxhead was originally listed on the registration roll of trade marks on June 2, 1781. Since this time the name Oxhead has become synonymous with high-quality tools being used in forestry and old fashioned carpentry.
