This top quality Bit Brace is the best one still made by Stanley UK. The Bit Brace comes with an excellent 4-jaw chuck that will securely grip traditional auger bits with taper shanks as well as round shank bits. We have had the opportunity to test less expensive braces with unsatisfactory result. They all have inferior chucks that fail to center the bit properly as well as securely grip the bit. The superior chuck of this Stanley Brace have none of those problems. 

If possible, we recommend you use traditional auger bits meant for Brace use (such as our single spur bits from Sweden or our Jennings Pattern Auger bits from Sheffield, England). This is because the tapered end of the bit sits in a square hole in the bottom of the chuck thereby preventing the bit from slipping for any reason.

Please note: Bits with Hex Shanks do not work with this 4-jaw Chuck.
