This Splitting Maul is one of the best splitting mauls available anywhere and we like it very much. Built for one purpose and one purpose only, splitting large pieces of wood. Designed for heavy duty use with an optimal splitting effect achieved by the wedgelike blade.
The blade is hand forged from the finest quality German steel and has been hardened and tempered to 56-58 Rockwell C for the best combination of toughness and hardness. This blade will not chip as is so common with lesser quality steel.
The finely polished edge is cut ready for use and the blade face with its turned nose has a width of 3". The 7 lbs head is designed for pounding a splitting wedge and is about 3" thick at the eye. Premium Hickory handle 35" long.
Importantly, this splitting maul has two key features that set it apart from the rest:
- a heavy duty steel sleeve that completely surrounds the handle to protect it from damage should you miss the target.
- a patented safety joint system (tapered collar, safety plate and screw) to provide an absolutely safe and secure attachment of the head to the handle. There is absolutely no way that the head will accidentally loosen during use. In fact, the attachment has been tested to withstand a pulling force equal to more than 12,000 lb.
